On behalf of SERI, the SNSF organises the FLARE (Funding LArge international REsearch projects) programme. It aims to facilitate the development and operation of research infrastructure for major international projects in particle physics, ground-based astrophysics and astroparticle physics. Two calls were planned for the 2025–2028 funding period. For this second call that is now open, proposals must be submitted by 16 November 2026. Funding will start from 1 April 2027 for a duration of one to two years.
For the 2025-2028 funding period, as a general principle, the priority of FLARE funding is Switzerland's participation in CERN and ESO. A further priority is the Swiss participation in neutrino research infrastructure projects in the USA and Japan. Additionally, the participation of Swiss researchers in other ground-based infrastructure projects in the field of particle physics, astrophysics and astroparticle physics may also be funded. However, as specific financial resources are requested in the ERI dispatch 2025-2028 to fund projects by Swiss researchers in the frame of the preparation of CTA and SKA, the FLARE programme 2025-2028 is, in principle, not intended for proposals directly pertaining to these contexts.
