Travel grants from the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAGW)

The SAGW supports young researchers working in Switzerland with contributions towards travel and accommodation costs for active participation in scientific conferences abroad.
In order to promote communication and the exchange of research results in an international context, the SAGW provides travel grants to young researchers and to persons who represent Swiss organisations in international umbrella organisations on the basis of a justified application.

Natural persons, regardless of whether they belong to a member institution of the SAGW or not, can apply for funding. The target group for travel grants for young academics are doctoral students or postdocs in the humanities or social sciences. Applicants must carry out the majority of their academic work in Switzerland. Their nationality or place of residence is irrelevant. Accommodation costs are reserved exclusively for junior researchers, whereby the SAGW will not reimburse more than CHF 150 per day. Applicants who have not exceeded the age of 38 at the time of registration of their subsidy application are generally considered to be junior researchers. Young researchers and researchers (assistants, doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers) over the age of 38 who have not yet reached a secure position in their academic career are also considered junior researchers. An appropriate personal contribution can be assumed.
The SAGW makes lump-sum contributions: For conference venues in Europe and in some Mediterranean countries (zone 1) a lump sum of CHF 500 can be applied for, for more distant destinations (zone 2) a lump sum of CHF 1,000.
